NEWBORN photography SESSION

I offer a variety of packages: you can choose the package for the baby only, or the baby with sibling or parents. You can even bring the grandparents to be photographed with the newborn baby. The best time to do a newborn session is within the first 7-20 days of birth. Babies are much sleepier in the first few weeks, which makes them more settled and calm, perfect for a newborn session. After the babies’ second week, they stop sleeping so deeply. They like to stretch more so it is harder to get those curled up poses and many times baby acne appears.

HOW TO PREPARE THE BABY FOR THE NEWBORN SESSION? Please do not worry if you are first time parents. I will send you a very detailed PREPARATION GUIDE before your newborn session day, which includes all the necessary information. It is very important to follow the instructions so the baby session can go smoothly without any stress for you and the baby.

Let me explain a little bit what I am going to do at the session.

First, I am going to wrap the baby with newborn photography wraps. I own plenty wraps and scarfs in many colors. They are very stretchy and the baby feels really comfortable in it. I start with wrapped up poses placing the baby in a basket, bucket or one of many other props I have in the studio. These are called basket/bowl set ups.

We even can get a smile if we are lucky 🙂

During every newborn session I do 1-2 composite images/floral creation. These images are done as the composite of two images. The background is digital. Usually, these are the images with fresh flowers or the images which require hanging up poses. All of the hanging ones images are done as composites of 2 images. This is so your newborn is safe at all times. My motto is safety first. I do not photograph and do unsafe poses. Before the session you will be asked to pick 1-2 favorite images from the digital composite gallery.

After the fully wrapped up poses, I slowly start unwrapping the baby to show the cute baby’s hands and feet. Again, we can get a smile at any time. Just look at this adorable face!

Babies love being partially or fully wrapped, it gives them comfort. They feel safe and secure.

Once in a while I am able to get this beautiful camera stare from a 10 days new baby!

Now, there is time for the outfit. I own plenty of baby’s outfits in different colors. They are available in the studio. Usually I only use 1 outfit per session. Changing the baby many times during the newborn session causes unnecessary stress to the baby, and I try to avoid upsetting newborns at any time. Keeping the newborn baby calm and relaxed is my goal during the photo shoot.

I have outfits for baby boys and baby girls in many colors.

At the end of the session I remove the baby’s dipper and try to photograph the baby naked. It does not always happen. Nude posing is subject to baby’s cooperation and it is not guaranteed. Some babies are very uncomfortable being without any clothes, and I never push the baby to do a certain pose. So be prepared, I might not be able to get this particular image.

If there is a sibling coming to the studio, I always start with the sibling and the baby poses first. Children get impatient very quickly, especially toddlers. It takes me about 15-30min to photograph the sibling with the newborn baby. These images parents treasure the most, because children grow up so fast. Therefore, I try capturing first newborn moments with his or her lovely sibling. My clients really love and appreciate those portraits, since sibling photos are always so adorable.

If parents want to be in the pictures I do those portraits next. The sibling is still listening and usually in a good mood lol. Those shots take up to 1 hour. After they are completed if possible I will ask the spouse/partner to take the older sibling out for something fun to do while we finish up with the newborn shots.

And this is it! The newborn session is done! When the session is complete, I will need time to process the photographs, and make the necessary edits in order to present you with the best images and quality possible. It generally takes about 2-3 weeks from the date of your baby photo session, so please be patient.
